Description

Day 1: Arrive to Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport you will be met and transferred by private vehicle to your lodge set on a coffee plantation in Arusha. The remainder of your day is at leisure. Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Meal plan: Dinner only.

Day 2: Arush to Tarangire National Park

After lunch in Arusha you drive to Tarangire National Park. Where you will have an afternoon game drive in the Park. Tarangire National Park derives its name from the Tarangire River that rises in the highlands of central Tanzania and winds its way through the game sanctuary. The river irresistibly lures the herds of plains migrants from the parched surrounding area to its shrunken – but permanent – brackish waters during the dry season. The animals come by thousands from as far north as the shores of Lake Natron, dramatically swelling the resident population with wildebeest, zebra, and eland, elephant, hartebeest, buffalo and fringe-eared Oryx. As the rainless days continue the Tarangire’s pools are clotted with thirsty migrants, and elephants begin to dig for underground streams in the dry riverbed. With the arrival of the short rains in October the first animals to leave are the herds of wildebeest and zebra, which flood out of Tarangire to the north. Overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 3: Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater

After a morning game drive you will drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Lunch will be at Gibbs farm, where you also have the opportunity for a nature walk to the waterfall. A majestic 150 m Waterfall. You can enjoy a light hike up hills and across small streams. Along the way, the “elephant caves”, are a very special place that the Elephants at Ngorongoro Conservation Area have created while they dig up and ingest the minerals that are in the soil. The guided walk walk takes about two hours and winds its way in and out the forest highlands affording panoramic views. In the afternoon drive to Ngorongoro. Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 4: At Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will have a crater tour with a picnic lunch on the crater floor. In the afternoon you will have a Serengeti view hike with a walking guide and a massai warrior. This is a one in a million experience. We depart from Serena Hotel walking along the Ngorongoro Crater wall, indulging in magnificent views and learning interesting facts about the area. From the Crater wall we walk past Maasai bomas towards the Malanja depression. The wildlife inside the depression is usually ample. We bisect the depression, witnessing elands, wildebeest, zebras and a rich bird population in their natural habitat! With Mount Makarot as the backdrop we have a rare chance and an unequalled opportunity to see these animals without the interference of windows and the rumbling of a diesel motor. Sightings of scarce wildlife include serval cats, turaco’s and wild cats. Unrivalled photographic opportunities present themselves as this phenomenal hike concludes with a view of the Serengeti. This hike is perfect for guests who are departing for the Serengeti in the morning. Guests can start the hike at 07:00 and their driver can meet them on the road, en route to the Serengeti three hours later. Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, picnic lunch & dinner.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti

Today you will drive to Serengeti with game viewing en route. You will visit Olduvai Gorge, where you will have a picnic lunch. Olduvai Gorge is the site of Dr. and Mrs. L.S.B. Leakey’s discovery of Zinjanthropus bosei, en route to the Serengeti. The Gorge was discovered accidentally by a German butterfly collector, Professor Kattwinkle, in 1911, but it was not until 1959 that Dr. Mary Leakey unearthed the Zinj skull believed to be 1.8 million years. Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Day 6: At Serengeti National Park

Today you will morning and afternoon game drives. Meals will be at the lodge. The Serengeti National Park lies between the Ngorongoro Highlands, Lake Victoria and Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya stretches one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges – the Serengeti. The name comes from the Maasai siringet, “endless plains”. The Serengeti’s 14,763 square kms contains about three million large animals, most taking part in seasonal migrations, unparalleled in nature. Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 7: Serengeti to the Airport

After breakfast you will be transferred to Seronera airstrip for your schedule flight back to Arusha. On arrival you are transferred to Arusha for lunch. You have the option to proceed to Zanzibar for sun and sea holiday or board your international flight back to home country. Meal plan: Breakfast and lunch only.
